Thursday Thirteen--Summer Fun

Maui has it's seasons even if they're not as pronounced as in many other places of the world.

Summer's hotter here just like most places, and for the last couple of years, we've felt the difference of the Sun. It feels as if the solar rays have intensified!

So what have I done for fun this Summer? Here's my Thursday Thirteen list:

1. Plurk is a new microblogging platform similar to Twitter (which I'm also on!), and I've enjoyed and LOL'd a lot with the humorous Plurkers and the crazy 'threads' of bite-size conversations which happen there. Plurk is one of my first stops when I get on the 'puter in the mornings.

If you'd like to join me, here's your invite.

You can design your own background and chat with people from all over the world.

2. Second Life is an alternative reality where you create an avatar, fly, swim like a mermaid, build a home, shop, sell, and do almost anything you can do in Real Life. When friends of mine plunged into Second Life with a passion this year, they lured me back into SL, and now I'm totally hooked! They are masterful creators in Second Life, and they've inspired me!

If you'd like to see some of the places I visit in Second Life, click on my Flickr link on the sidebar. I'll be uploading more SL pictures to Flickr as time goes by. I encourage you to make the jump to the other side of the mirror and discover what an amazing experience it is!

Far from being just a kiddie phenom, many big institutions have made a home on SL. Check out this link to see just a SMALL fraction of the big time organizations whom have staked out a place on Second Life.

3. We've been enjoying the company of our daughter who moved back in with us several weeks ago. She's a joy to have around again, and our home is rocking with laughter all the time.

4. My partner and I threw a party, a pre-season themed college football party, and we sent out e-vites to his football buddies. Our home nearly levitated from all the football cheers they gave, fueled no doubt by pitchers and pitchers of my delish, fresh Mango Margaritas. The mangos were from our Mango Giving Trees which were gifting us an abundance of mangoes this year. It took me several weeks to get our home back in order, but everyone had such a great time, it was well worth it!

5. As a Virgo, I heart organization and everything being ship-shape. Sadly, I'm never as organized as I'd like to be--but I'm getting there! One of my summer accomplishments has been to scan old, pre-digital photos of our travels and then download them into my Flickr account--and then organize the photos into collections on Flickr. This WHOLE process is very time-consuming, and I'm not even close to completion. However, I've had fun getting organized!!! Go figure! Virgos will totally get it.

6. Our television guilty secret is we enjoy the series "Big Brother", and we watch it three times a week. Should we be away from the tv, we DVR it. The characters with all their follies, foibles, and frailties grow on you, and the Production and Direction are very well done.

7. Our second favorite summertime tv show is the CBS game show,"Greatest American Dog", and again, I can't convey how hilarious this show is! You simply have to watch it. We HOWL, and we never miss an episode. Credit once again goes to Production and Direction as well as to casting! Even if you're not a dog lover, this show will put a smile on your face.

8. I would be remiss if I weren't to add that I've enjoyed exercising on our treadmill with my headphones, sweating, and running to music. I always feel so much better afterwards, and once I finish this post, this is where I'm heading. From our treadmill one has a magnificent view of the South Maui coastline--a real treat. What is it about a grand view which elevates one's Spirit?

9. The Maui Ocean. Warm. Inviting. Many Shades Of Blue from cobalt to turquoise. Float and Swim. Pure Bliss.

10. ART! Besides my passion for photography (which I'm always attempting to improve), I've been creating art: collage, painting, and writing.

11. I went through a month of being obsessed with the Feng Shui of our home! I've been practicing Feng Shui (both forms) for many years, but every now and then, I'll find myself wanting to 'tweak' the feng shui of our home and improve upon it. This f.s. obsession came and went, but it was FUN while it lasted! And the changes I made have improved everything in our lives, so the magnificent feng shui obsessive period paid off.

12. Movies are always on my FUN list, no matter what season. However, my TWO favorite movies of the summer were "Mama Mia" and "Vicky Cristina Barcelona", both movies which were located in foreign countries, Greece and Spain. These movies whetted my travel appetite, and since we've not traveled this summer, these movies sated my travel desires somewhat. Not all the way by a long shot!

13. The angels led me to My Maui Dream Home, and I've driven by the property many times envisioning what it'd be like to live there. I keep photos of this property on my digital camera, and I review the paperwork and design which I keep on my bedside table and look at often. This dream brings me JOY, and everytime I imagine myself living there, my heart skips a beat because this home is so ME!

This will go up on the Thursday Thirteen page.
