More Dalai Lama News
I recently received an email from none other than Thomas Laird after I had posted about his incredible book,"The Story of Tibet...Conversations With The Dalai Lama". He shared some radio interviews which you can listen to online plus some great blurbs about his book which I will post at the end of this email!
However, first I'd like to share that there is going to be a LIVE WEBCAST of the Dalai Lama's Maui public talks! Thanks to the collaboration of several local and national businesses and educational institutions, including Maui Community College (University of Hawaii), Stanford University, VX30 and Sun Microsystems with the Tibet Fund, everyone can see and hear the Dalai Lama speak on Maui.

Second, I've been notified by a local reader of this blog that he has extra tickets, so if someone needs tickets, email me, and I'll forward the email onto him!
Now here's the blurbs Thomas Laird received for his book which took him TEN years to complete!
“ Moves directly to the heart of geopolitical matters in a surprisingly intimate "history" of Tibet as revealed in conversation with its outcast leader, Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama. …a thoughtful dialogue (call it a philosophical dialectic) about Tibet's past not simply as a sequence of events, but as seen through the perspectives of myth, spirituality, morality, human frailty and fate.” Kirkus Reviews
“Thomas Laird captures the beauty, the magnificence, the humor of this world spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.” –James Lilley, former U.S. Ambassador to China and South Korea, and author of China Hands: Nine Decades of Adventure, Espionage, and Diplomacy in Asia.
“Thomas Laird’s lively conversations with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the history and mythology of Tibet couldn’t come at a better moment, as China stubbornly persists in negating the distinctive Tibetan identity. The honestly, subtlety, and complexity of His Holiness’ thoughts on these crucial matters comes through the fascinating dialogues. Everyone who cares about Tibet, or about a stable peace in Asia, should read this amazing account.” –Robert Thurman, author of Inner Revolution, Professor of Buddhist studies, Columbia University
“The 14th Dalai Lama’s fresh account of Tibetan myth and history, as shared at Dharamsala over a three year period with Thomas Laird, is wonderful instruction and a great true pleasure, not less so because of the small informal moments that clarify these encounters with that delightful Buddha being who manifests in the beleaguered public figure of His Holiness.” –Peter Matthiessen, author of The Snow Leopard, 1979, winner of the National Book Award.
"Deeply absorbing... valuable and fascinating." The Telegraph, London
“ a significant contribution… We see the human being behind all the media generated wherever the Dalai Lama goes… bibliography is commendably thorough. Laird's book will find a readership in both public and academic libraries. Library Journal
“Important read… we look at the current history of our entire world in a new light as we read it.” Boulder Daily Camera, Sandra Sanchez
