St. Patrick's Day---A Good Day To Be Green

Photo: Charles Pfeil

My mate has Irish ancestry, and what others call 'blarney', he calls 'embellishment'-- or dramatic storytelling! He is an upstanding citizen, and yet the Irish in him can't resist turning an average story into a 'yarn'--the word to describe how a story shifts upon his re-telling of it and becoming more fun & exaggerated. Since he reads every word of my posts on this blog, hopefully he will have a green beer or two in him when he reads this, and since he's a genial, jovial, hail-fellow-well-met Irishman, he will probably have a good laugh! We traveled to Ireland many years ago, and we both laid backwards and kissed the famous Blarney Stone. Since he already had the blarney genes, this kissing only gave him MORE blarney!

I write this with all respect and in good fun because today is St. Patrick's Day, and this is a day when we all get to tweak the Irish, pinch someone who isn't wearing green, drink too much warm green beer, and dance a jig with our friends should we please, and all in the name of a misunderstood day!

Here's an excellent article titled "St. Patrick Revealed" in Slate Online which does away with lots of the nonsense and distortions about St. Patrick.

Hope you're having a great St. Paddy's Day wherever you are, and if you drink, don't drive!!! The Luck of the Irish to ya! My partner's day got off to a good start when his favorite basketball team, Ohio State University, turned around a certain defeat at the end of the game to a victory! The Irish do have some darned good luck, don't they?!
