Nobel Peace Prize Won

Artwork courtesy of Josephine Wall

I was overjoyed to read the news today online with the New York Times. Why? The Nobel Peace Prize was given yesterday to a man that made a huge shift in the world as he pioneered the concept of microcredit loans. Microcredit "has become one of the most popular antipoverty strategies in the world."

The man who changed the way the world gives loans to impoverished people is a Bangladeshi economist, Muhammad Yunus. It began when Mr. Yunus "reached into his own pocket to give his first loan, $27, to 42 villagers..." Small gesture with enormous results for the world!! So he said to himself, "If you can make so many people so happy with such a small amount of money, why shouldn't you do more of it?"

Indeed! Now tiny loans are being given to millions of poor people worldwide. Congratulations Mr. Yunus! You are an angel to many!

I loved that this guy got the peace prize. And I love that it wasn't the economics prize or anything else...but the peace prize. Love it, love it, love it.
